A Life of Faith and Family

Donald (Don) Eugene Capps was born on August 9, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama. A proud Christian, he embodied the principles of love, generosity and hard work, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. A dedicated member of North Shelby Baptist Church, Don served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and committee member. His faith also extended to his work with The Gideons International, reflecting his lifelong mission to share God’s word.

Married to his beloved wife, Annie Lloyd Lester Capps, for 65 years, Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Together, they raised two children by birth, Kelley and Donald Keith, and welcomed two sons by grace, Erick and Rony. His family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, remained his greatest joy.

  • Founder, The Sheffield Group (1993-2022)

    In 1993, Mr. Capps established The Sheffield Group, a workers’ compensation provider, with just two employees. Under his leadership, the company grew into one of Alabama’s premier workers’ compensation providers, serving businesses of all sizes.

    • Oversaw the development of a 41,000-square-foot headquarters in Meadow Brook Corporate Park, complete with employee-focused amenities such as a fitness center, private chef and storm shelter.

  • Founder, Capps’ Customs (1982–1993)

    In 1982, Don founded Capps’ Customs, a specialty window covering company. His drive to deliver quality products and excellent customer service laid the groundwork for his next major venture.

    Don began his professional journey at Republic Steel, where he gained valuable experience and spent 19 years building a strong foundation for his future endeavors.
